인간의 오랜 꿈을 이룬 '라이트 형제'[The Wright Brothers, who fulfilled the long-cherished dream of man]

 인간의 오랜 꿈은 하늘을 나는 것이었습니다. 1903년 12월 17일은 라이트 형제가 인류 첫 비행에 성공한 날입니다. 어릴 때부터 라이트형제는 어렸을 때부터 기계 만지는 것을 유난히 좋아하였습니다. 어린시절 라이트 형제는 학교 가는 것을 잊은 채 망가진 재봉틀을 고치기도 하였습니다. 어느 날 라이트 형제의 아버지는 헬리콥터 장난감을 사다주었습니다. 이 장난감은 대나무와 고무줄로 만들어 진 장난감이었습니다. 라이트 형제는 학교를 그만두고 인쇄소에서 신문을 만들기도 하였습니다. 형제의 마음을 사로잡은 것은 자전거였습니다. 이 후 어른이 된 라이트 형제는 함께 자전거 가게를 운영하였습니다. 라이트 형제는 비행기에 관한 책을 닥치는대로 읽었으며 과학자들에게 비행기에 관한 질문이 담긴 편지 수백통을 보내었습니다. 하지만 형제는 중요한 답을 얻지 못했습니다. 어느 순간 라이트 형제는 자전거에서 해답을 찾았습니다. '자전거는 두 바퀴로 균형을 잡는구나. 비행기도 마찬가지야. 비행기의 균형은 비행기를 탄 사람이 조정하면 되는거야.' 라이트 형제는 비행에 알맞은 날개를 찾기 위해 수많은 날개 모형을 만들었습니다. 라이트 형제는 날개를 시험하기 위해 바람을 일으키는 기계도 만들었습니다. 라이트 형제는 '릴리엔탈'이라는 사람이 글라이더를 타다가 추락하였고 목숨을 잃었다는 소식을 듣게 되었습니다. 이 소식을 들은 라이트 형제는 안전하게 하늘을 날 수 있는 비행기를 만들기 시작하였습니다. 라이트형제는 글라이더에 엔진을 달라 프로펠러로 날 수 있는 비행기를 만드는 데 성공하였습니다. 라이트 형제는 글라이더를 타고 인류 첫 비행에 성공하였습니다. 비행 기록은 12초 동안 36m 나는 것이었습니다. 라이트 형제의 첫 비행은 항공발전에 첫 발을 내딛게 하는 역사적인 사건이었습니다.

The Wright brothers also made a wind-generating machine to test their wings. The Wright brothers heard that a man named Lilienthal fell and died while riding a glider. Upon hearing this news, the Wright brothers began to make planes that could fly safely in the sky. The Wright brothers succeeded in building an airplane that could fly with a propeller by giving the glider an engine. The Wright brothers succeeded in the first flight of mankind on a glider. The flight record was 36 meters for 12 seconds. The Wright brothers' first flight was a historic event that took their first step in aviation development.
